I was working as a PM for an international rollout of D365 F&O when my local team of 9 challenged me with a bet.
They felt that my idea to build an app for D365 F&O Consultants, was too complicated.
They said...
"You take too long to explain what you're doing".
and
"You don't even have an elevator pitch".
It's true.
I've tried explaining the problem I'm solving and how my app works.
After a few minutes I see the ...
- blink-blink with their eyes.
- a glazed look.
- awkward left-right shifting in their feet.
My friends are right.
I took on their challenge.
I searched for a way to simplify how I communicate.
I set my target to do this with anyone I meet, in 30 seconds or less.
Should I fail, I'm up for nine of the best Gelatos at https://gelatomessina.com/
BTW, here's what I talk about when I'm asked.
Why most D365 F&O Consultants are dying from support tickets.
Most tickets are for repetitive problems that should sit with the business.
Most problems have already been solved by someone else in the world.
I believe that D365 F&O Specialists are the unsung heroes in the world.
I want to help them take control of their day.
And to focus on the things that matter to them.
🟡
Keep reading below to see how I learned a simpler way to communicate.
I've been following Rachel Profitt and her new Microsoft Business Process flows here.
Rachel lists 13 Business Process flows which are the backbone for most Enterprises.
It's much easier than the APQC ones that we used previously.
I picked one of them - Order to Cash, which gave me the high-level steps.
I already had a pre-built Bank Reconciliation flow which lists the steps that a typical Finance Team would use every morning to see if their Bank Recs imported correctly.
As a demo, I setup one validation to check which Bank Accounts in D365 F&O didn't import their statements every morning at 8:30am.
I'm adding alerts on each of the Azure steps for transferring the files from multiple Banks into Azure Blob storage and same for the LogicApp that sends the individual files to the recurring job in D365 F&O.
Imagine that whenever these steps fail - it always means a bunch of tickets for D365 Support. So, giving these dashboards to the Finance team - eliminates the tickets and support costs.
Anyway, I ran the demo - check out the video below.
🟢
So, what did I learn?
Whilst watching this video and seeing how people reacted, I learnt that people often connect the dots when they're shown how something works.
I shouldn't talk.
Talk is cheap.
I should just show people with demos, over and over again.
I get it now!
As for the video, yes it took 34 seconds.
And I ended up buying Gelato for all.
I even bought one for myself.
Problem licked!
Losing is fun.
